Idea Clouds Ink teamed up with a leading NYC based property management company and software start up company to develop a demonstration project proposal - "home 2.0", a mobile app to help low income New Yorkers save money on their electric bills.
The proposed home 2.0 app would help low income residents better monitor and manage their electric usage to save money and energy. The app monitors real home energy use and connects with smart solar powered controllers for air conditioners, lights, and radiators to help manage electricity budgets, bills, and environmental impacts. The app’s primary source of revenue was via advertising dollars. The app would benefit property managers of low income housing buildings too through lower energy bills and reduced city fines for things like heat complaints.
idea clouds Ink led design thinking workshops and proposal preparations, including document collection, idea generation and original content development.
Idea Clouds Ink worked with a leading automations company to bring buildings to life with internet connected devices that talk over cloud based systems to web and mobile applications.
The applications monitor and analyzes all of a building's electrical and mechanical systems in real time and senses and reports when things seem wrong - like a tenant could be uncomfortable, a boiler is operating inefficiently, there’s a leaking pipe, or an open window that shouldn’t be. The system can even "self heal" through automated work orders.
Idea Clouds Ink led requirements gathering and development efforts for both the front and back end systems of the app.
Did you know that there are still over a billion people in the world without electricity?
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) teamed with a local non-profit, the Global Himalayan Expedition, to tackle the problem of "energy access" head on and show that with the right application of simple technology, you really can change the world.
idea clouds Ink founder Meera Tandon was invited by National Geographic as a subject matter expert on energy to join the team and share the story of bringing both electricity and internet access to one of the most remote places in the world.
With solar panels and other supplies strapped on the backs of donkeys, the team set out through the Himalayan Mountains to install a direct current ("DC") microgrid, lights, and computers connected to satellite internet for school children who have never flipped a light switch or connected with the outside world. Within hours they were studying on Khan Academy – one girl researching how she can achieve her dream of becoming mayor and improving her village life.
Did you know that during the first trimester of pregnancy, many women suffer from unbearable morning sickness and that there are few effective, natural solutions? Further, there are over 40 million adults who suffer from anxiety and another 60 million suffer from insomnia. These ailments are interrelated and even share some common treatments.
The ancient principles of acupressure posit that when pressure is applied to specific points in the body, symptoms can be relieved. idea clouds Ink is working with a 3D printing lab and jewelry design team to develop a wearable solution for the relief of morning sickness symptoms - the latest in our wave of FemTech solutions (technology solutions designed for women). Our wearable is designed to be elegant, stylish, discreet, and 100% natural and effective at combatting the discomfort of morning sickness. The first generation prototype is under development and user testing is expected in the next few months.
"Finding Ms. Market" is an idea clouds Ink creation. It is a project with the goal of inspiring, motivating and empowering women to secure their financial independence and futures. The project founders, two women in their early 30s have been rethinking the traditional model of revenue generation. A 9 to 5 corporate office job vs. working for yourself. Retirement planning as an exit strategy vs. saving for the life experiences you want, right now.
Ms. Market was created in response to the classic Mr. Market character, who was popularized by Benjamin Graham in his book on value investing, "The Intelligent Investor" is well recognized as making irrational decisions that drive the markets. Ms. Market serves as a foil to Mr. Market and imagines a world where women take a more active role in investing in financial markets. What would that look like? The "Finding Ms. Market" team is talking to investors, artists, school teachers and the like to learn how women in particular, are building alternative revenue steams, securing their financial futures, and sharing their stories in engaging ways.
Puppy Meets Robot is an idea clouds Ink creation. It is a blog for young professional women who are looking to grow and mature into the best form of themselves. The bloggers, who are a duo of type A and type B female personalities - coined the 'robot' and the 'puppy' - take their readers on a journey of self discovery to conquer everything from confidence to finances, managing emotions, to sneaking out of meetings, getting that raise, improving their health, and planning the best summer ever! Their daily struggles and how they see the world are very different, as you'd expect for a puppy and a robot, but their common thread is their devotion to trying new things, sharing what they've learned, and helping each other and others along the way. The bloggers share their goals, strategies and encouragement with their readers with the hope of inspiring other like-motivated women to explore finding their best selves too.
Did you know that organized sports help youth develop cognitive skills and those who play sports are more likely to attend college and receive degrees? Further, nine out of ten female corporate executives reported having played a sport in high school. All youth should have access to quality organized sports programs regardless of skill or socioeconomic status.
idea clouds Ink founder Meera Tandon worked with partner organizations - the BMFL, a renowned co-ed adult recreation flag football league sporting the slogan, “Play for Fun, Feel Like a Pro” and the Roosevelt Island Youth Program, a local after school program - to found an innovative flag football training program for the youth in the Roosevelt Island community. Flag football, while teaching many of the valuable life lessons of traditional American football - like team work, hard work, and strategy - is safer, as defenders grab flags instead of tackle opponents, reducing the likelihood of unnecessary injuries. The program is one of a kind – as it is 100% free for all youth regardless of socioeconomic status or skill level, features paid coaches and referees, and is co-ed with both male and female quarterbacks.
In just its first season in the summer of 2017, the program enrolled and is actively training over 100 youth in the principles of flag football. A typically male sport, the program has actively recruited females and in its first season, has trained over 30 young women.
